HOW TO PERFORM A FAECAL EGG COUNT

  1. Collect a small amount of fresh manure from your horse. One pellet or tablespoon is sufficient as we only require 2 grams to perform the faecal egg count.
  2. Place manure in a ziplock bag or small plastic container and label with horse and owner details.
  3. Deliver to clinic at 28 Graydens Rd, Tyabb.
  4. Cost is $22 per faecal egg count.
  5. Results will be available within 24 hours.
  6. Strategic worming advice will be given depending on the number of parasite eggs detected.
  7. Horses with faecal egg counts < 200 eggs per gram are considered within the healthy range and will not require deworming.
  8. Horses should be retested every 8-12 weeks depending upon their susceptibilty to parasites.
