OUR SERVICES
Emergency / After Hours
In the event of an emergency, McGregor Equine Veterinary Services will be there for you and your horse, providing caring equine emergency services to the Mornington Peninsula and its surrounding areas.
A 24 hour emergency service is provided to existing clients 365 days a year.
An After Hours surcharge will apply for consultations conducted outside office hours.
New clients are advised to submit a New Client Application Form or contact the clinic to register your details well in advance of any likely emergency.
Please notify the clinic in advance if you have a mare due to foal that may possibly require overnight emergency attendance, in order that we can be prepared to attend if required.
Ambulatory
McGregor Equine provides a complete on-farm equine veterinary service for your horse which can be attended at your property, agistment or training centre on the Mornington Peninsula or its surrounding areas.
Our vehicles are well equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and medical supplies ensuring comprehensive veterinary care can be provided on-site.
Areas covered include the entire Mornington Peninsula region (Bangholme to Flinders/Boneo) and the South Western Gippsland regions (Cranbourne, Clyde, Officer, Pakenham, Kooweerup, Bayles, Nar Nar Goon, Bunyip).
Travel charges will apply according to region and distance travelled.
Clinic Consultations
McGregor Equine Veterinary Services provides a boutique and specifically designed equine veterinary clinic to its clients, with great facilities and experienced staff available at the Tyabb clinic to enhance the veterinary services and procedures provided to your horse.
Examination facilities, breeding crush, semen collection facilities, an on-site reproduction laboratory, and superior diagnostic equipment are available at the clinic to facilitate easier and safer examination for those clients who may lack those facilities at home.
EFTPOS facilities are also available at the clinic, and the office is attended 9am-1pm each weekday to assist with account payments or the provision of general veterinary supplies such as bandaging materials, worming pastes and supplements. Please phone in advance if you are unable to attend during office hours so an alternative arrangement can be made.
Reproduction
McGregor Equine Veterinary Services offers and experienced and comprehensive range of equine reproduction services to horse owners on the Mornington Peninsula and its surrounding areas.
Fresh, Chilled and Frozen AI procedures can be performed on your mare, along with more specialised procedures such as Embryo Transfer.
For Stallion owners, we provide a semen collection service and are able to co-ordinate with our couriers to send your stallion’s semen throughout Australia as required. We also offer semen evaluation services and freezing.
An experienced stallion handler is available to handle your stallion if required, and we also provide a stallion training service for young stallions who require training to collect for AI.
Our hospital has facilities for Neonatal Intensive Care of sick or injured foals that require intensive assistance after birth, in addition to facilities for fostering of orphan foals.
Lameness Evaluation
McGregor Equine Veterinary Services offers a comprehensive and experienced lameness evaluation service with a thorough and expert analysis of any gait abnormalities or lameness provided.
Nerve blocks and diagnostics including digital x-ray and ultrasound are utilised to correctly diagnose the cause of your horse’s lameness, and customised treatment including medical therapies, joint injections, corrective farriery advice and rehabilitation programs are provided to your horse.
Our fully equipped laboratory also allows us to offer our clients Regenerative Therapies including IRAP and Platelet-Rich- Plasma which are processed in-house.
Pre-purchase Exams
If you are wishing to purchase a new horse, McGregor Equine Veterinary Services can assist by providing an experienced and knowledgeable assessment of that horse and its suitability for purchase.
A comprehensive 5 stage examination will be performed, including a complete clinical examination, flexion tests, exercise testing and blood sampling.
Other specialised tests such as x-ray, ultrasound and endoscopy can also be performed prior to purchase if required, and these tests can help provide further information as to the health of the prospective purchase.
Preventative Care

At McGregor Equine Veterinary Services we can assist you to maintain optimum health of your horse by providing advice on preventative care measures such as vaccination programs, nutrition, dentistry, hoof care, worming, joint care, Cushings disease management and geriatric care.
At our clinic we provide a faecal egg count service to our clients in order that we can assess the levels of any parasite burden in your horse and customise a deworming program to suit each horse’s individual needs.
Hospital Care
At our boutique equine veterinary hospital, McGregor Equine Veterinary Services is able to provide dedicated intensive medical care services to patients that require more involved treatment and monitoring than they can be provided at home.
Horses requiring specialist surgical treatment are referred to one of the many specialist equine hospitals available in Victoria for treatment, and McGregor Equine Veterinary is able to organise and co-ordinate referral of your horse for surgery should it be required.
Post-operative management of horses is also available at McGregor Equine Veterinary Services for those clients that lack the facilities to manage their horse after surgery, or for those horses requiring wound management or medications to be administered.
Dentistry
Dentistry is an area of equine veterinary care that is rapidly advancing and every horse should benefit from this.
Regular dental examinations are a very important part of your horses’ management and should be carried out with sedation by your veterinary surgeon every 6-12 months for routine care and early diagnosis and treatment of any dental problems.
